Connecting Your Child to Their School

Follow these simple steps to link your child's Spell & Grow app to their school's spelling lists. It takes under two minutes.

Setup steps

    Download Spell & Grow

    Download the free Spell & Grow app from the App Store (iPhone/iPad) or Google Play (Android), or open learn.spellandgrow.app in your browser.

    Create a profile for your child

    Open the app and tap “Get Started”. Enter your child’s first name (or a nickname) and choose their age group. This creates their personal spelling profile.

    Go to the Parent Area

    Tap the lock icon in the top corner of the home screen. You’ll be asked to set a 4-digit PIN the first time — this keeps the Parent Area private.

    Tap “Link to School”

    Inside the Parent Area, find the “Link to School” option. This is where you’ll connect your child’s profile to their class.

    Enter the join code

    Type in the 6-character join code your child’s teacher gave you. Codes are not case-sensitive but must be entered exactly as shown.

    Confirm and link

    You’ll see the class name and school displayed on screen. Check it’s correct, then tap “Link” to confirm. That’s it!

    Your child is ready to go

    Your child will now see their school’s spelling lists in the app alongside any existing word lists. School lists are clearly marked with a school icon.

What you need to know

  • School spelling lists are completely free

    You do not need a subscription to access spelling lists set by your child’s teacher. School lists bypass all freemium limits.

  • Only your child’s first name is shared

    The school can see your child’s first name and their spelling progress. No surname, date of birth, or email address is shared.

  • You can unlink at any time

    If you want to disconnect from the school, go to the Parent Area, tap the school name, and tap “Unlink”. Your child’s progress is kept.

  • The app works offline

    Once spelling lists are downloaded, your child can practise anywhere — no internet connection needed. Progress syncs when you’re back online.

  • Teachers can see spelling progress

    Your child’s teacher can see which words have been practised, accuracy scores, and completion status. This helps them plan lessons effectively.

Common questions

The code isn’t working
Check you’ve entered it exactly as shown — codes are 6 characters and may include letters and numbers. If it still doesn’t work, ask your child’s teacher to check whether the code has been regenerated or has expired.
My child already uses the app
That’s great! Simply open the Parent Area, tap “Link to School”, and enter the join code. Your child’s existing progress, achievements, and word lists are all kept. School lists will appear alongside their current lists.
We don’t have a smartphone
You can use Spell & Grow in any web browser at learn.spellandgrow.app — on a Chromebook, laptop, tablet, or desktop.
Can multiple children use one device?
Yes! Create a separate profile for each child in the app. Each child has their own progress, difficulty level, and school link. Switch between profiles from the home screen.
How do I unlink my child?
Open the Parent Area (tap the lock icon, enter your PIN), tap the linked school name, then tap “Unlink”. Your child’s personal progress is kept — only the school connection is removed.
