Priced by the pupil.

iPhone + web app

Freeevery word, every child, no ads.

Families practise free. The full practice engine is included — adaptive learning, progress for every word and every child in the family — with nothing to pay.

Open the web app

Works in a browser, including on Chromebook. The iPhone app is in preview; the App Store listing is not yet confirmed.

What you get

Everything, for everyone. The price is the only difference.

There are no tiers inside a school plan. A one-form-entry primary and a large independent prep get the same portal, the same practice app and the same reports.

In every school plan

  • Teacher portal — classes and rosters with no child accounts: a first name and an anonymous pupil ID.
  • DfE statutory lists — Years 3/4 and 5/6 (100 words each), plus the Year 1 and 2 common exception words, ready to assign.
  • Your own lists — typed, generated from a topic, or Smart Lists built from each pupil’s error history.
  • Class view — pupils-by-words heatmap, spelling-pattern analytics, at-risk lens, year-group and curriculum-coverage reporting.
  • Reports and certificates — PDF reports on your letterhead; certificates that reach the child’s home app.
  • Pupils practise anywhere — in the Chromebook web app at school, or in the family app at home with a class code.
  • SEN pupil tags, MIS CSV export, activity audit trail, in-portal help and chatbot.
  • Compliance dossier — data flow in plain English, sub-processor register, delete-a-class-and-its-data, export everything.

Google Classroom sync is in development and not part of the current price promise.

In the free family app

  • The whole engine — adaptive practice over a 2,600-word, safety-checked corpus with real spoken words and sentences.
  • Gentle help when stuck — learn, copy, trace and recall steps, with Pip cheering them on.
  • Topics — 36 subjects from the curriculum to practise by theme.
  • Your own word lists — this week’s spellings, typed in once.
  • Every child in the family, and a second grown-up by invitation.
  • This week — a parent summary of what was practised and what to cheer on next; progress for every word.
  • Trophies and certificates, including the ones a teacher awards.
  • Data and privacy — export or delete your child’s data from inside the app. No ads, no leaderboards.

Spelling games are in development and not part of what is described here.

Buying for a school

The questions your business manager will ask.

Is there a trial?
Yes. Start with one class for a term before anything is billed. There is no card needed to try it.
How do we pay — card or invoice?
Card payments are handled by Stripe and renew once a year. Schools that need a purchase order and invoice can ask for one.
Which pupils count?
You pay for the pupils you add to the portal, not your whole roll. Pupils added mid-year are billed at the full annual rate when you add them.
Why are special schools on the state rate?
Pricing follows how a school is funded, not who it teaches. State-funded special schools pay £1; independent special schools pay £3.
Is there a Data Processing Agreement?
A v1.0 DPA template with a security annex is available for review on request. It is pending legal review and should not be read as approved or signed. Our service providers are listed in the privacy notice.
Where is pupil data held?
In the United Kingdom (London). We do not sell pupil data or use it for advertising, third-party analytics or model training. Igloo Labs is registered with the ICO (ZC163696).
Can we cancel?
Yes. Cancel before your renewal date and nothing further is charged. You can delete a class and all its data, or export everything, at any time from the portal.
Is VAT included?
No. Prices on this page are shown before VAT; VAT at the standard rate is added to your invoice.
We are a trust with several schools.
Each school is priced the same way; a trust sees all of them in one place. Talk to us about a trust-wide set-up.
Does a child need the school to pay?
No. The family app is free whether or not a school is involved. A class code simply connects the two.
